Grandma's Dishes

My mosaic on Monday was of my trip to Creemore and I mentioned places we had seen and the dishes I had found to help complete my Grandmas set.
Many of you wanted to know what a 100 Mile Store was. This is a store that sells grocery items that are grown, produced or made within a 100 miles of the location of that store.  In Ontario environmental groups have been pushing consumers to buy produce within a 100 mile radius of where they live.
So a group of concerned people opened what they call The 100 Mile Store in Creemore, Ontario.
All items sold in the store are grown and produced locally.
It was fun to visit and explore the labels on the jars, cans and bags to see where they came from.

I am always looking for items to complete my Grandmas dishes.
They are a wonderful cream color with a gold and floral pattern rim.
I found 3 plates, 4 salad plates and a teacup and saucer while we were in Creemore.

A place setting with my husbands family silverware.
I had no flowers to add to the table
so I added one of my Moms' cermaic flower arrangements.
It matches perfectly.

This is a picture of the soup bowl.
I now have dinner plates for 10, salad plates for 6, soup bowls for 6,
bread plates for 4, dessert bowls for 4,
tea saucers for 6 but only 3 teacups.

A picture of the mark on the back of a plate.

This last picture is called Illustration and I did it in camera and not in Photoshop.
It is amazing what happens when you start pushing buttons, I was looking for some other
menu and found this creative window by mistake. And I thought I new my camera, Surprise, Surprise!
Takes that statement 'get what you want in-camera
so there is less time fixing on the computer' to new heights.

Thanks for visiting today and take care!

Mosaic Monday - Trip to Creemore

Hubby and I took a drive to visit the small town of Creemore, Ontario.
We saw the Collingwood Bridge, the worlds smallest jail, wondered through
some antique shops and visited the 100 Mile Store.
The main street was decorated for fall with pumpkins, pots of Mums,
cornstalks and piles of colored leaves.

I was given my Grandmothers china many years ago from my Anut,
the set was never complete, but I found 3 dinner plates, 4 salad plates
and one teacup in one of the antique stores we visited.
This completed the day perfectly.

You must visit Mary at Little Red House to view the beautiful mosaics.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Pink Saturday

Beautiful pink tulips were being sold at the local grocery store promoting Breast Cancer Awareness month. Pink tulips in October?...I had to bring them home.

I have been taking a photography class at the high school and last week our assignment was to take a side lit photo of a person or figurine. I could not get any one to sit long enough so I used my pink tulips.

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts this wonderful meme.

Fridays' Favorite

Welcome, lets' take a stroll around the garden to see the leaves of the trees,
shrubs and perennials that are turning shades of red, yellow and orange.

This is an oak tree seedling in the woodland garden.
A wonderful shade of red-orange.

The Cornus alternifolia (Pagoda Dogwood) is burgandy red.

The leaves of the sedum are turning red and look this one has decided to flower again.
It usually flowers in the middle of the summer, this is a welcome surprise.

We end our stroll with a view of the golden leaves of Hosta ' Frances William'.
Thank you for joining me and have a great weekend.

I am joining Tootsie at Tootsie Time for Fertilizer Friday.
You must stop by to see what others have blooming in their garden.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

It is time for another Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, but I have no flower blooms in the garden, we have had a couple of very hard frosts and the perennials are settling in for their winter rest.
 The annuals are only memories.
So for this GGBD I have decided to pick two colors, red and yellow,
and show you a sample of what I had blooming in each season using these colors.

In Spring:
 Eranthis hymalis (Winter aconite)
Red Tulips

In Summer:
Hemerocallis 'Canada Goose' (Canada Goose daylily)
Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam' (Moonbeam coreopsis)

In Fall:
Clematis orientalis seedhead
Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple Tree)
Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Virginia Creeper)

Thank you for visiting and have a great weekend!

Mosaic Monday - Thanksgiving Dinner

This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving and my family gathered around the table to stuff themselves on turkey, stuffing, carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy.
To top it all off, we had pumpkin pie and ice cream for dessert.
I am as stuffed as the turkey.

Stop by Little Red House, hosted by Mary, to see some fantastic mosaics.

Take care and enjoy your week!!

Pink Saturday

I received this plate from my Dad as a Christmas present last year. I love the dark pink edges with gold roses and the large pink rose and smaller flower bouquet in the center.

This is a picture of the back.

I am joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday,
please stop by and visit the other bloggers participating in this wonderful party.

Remember October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

"Ten Things I Like"

Valerie at Gardening in a Sandbox invited bloggers to participate in "10 Things I Like",
so here we go. My list:
1. I like to read and my tastes are very diverse. I read both fiction and non fiction. Every night I try to read for an hour, but I have been known to read into the wee hours of the morning, especially if the book is one of those you cannot put down.

2. I like to watch the birds and even have pictures of them in the house.

3. I like photography. This is a picture my hubby took while we were on vacation.

4. I like tea, but only herbal. Every afternoon I sit down with a cup of tea and a book.

5. I like flowers. This bouquet was a gift from my son on my birthday.

6. Quilting is another passion of mine, but then most of you already know that.
This is my latest piece, I made it for a friend to put on her Thanksgiving table.

7. I like to add whimsical pieces to the garden. This frog spent the summer by the pond.

8. I like to wear hats and have them for both summer and winter.
Just about every hat has its' own hat box.

9 &10 I am combining.
I like playing in photoshop and how different the seasons are.

If you have made it to the end of this long post I thank you. The rules are easy, if you would like to participate, just list 10 things you like to do and invite other bloggers to join in. So this is your invitation.

Have a great weekend!
To my fellow Canadian Bloggers have a wonderful Thanksgiving
with family and friends!

On The Hunt for Autumn Colour

Every autumn hubby and I pack the car and point it north on our yearly
excursion to see the leaves changing colour.

The day dawned very misty,
but we were hopeful it would clear.

Not much colour here, just a few leaves among the stone fence.

But this Red Fox was on the other side of the fence.
It is the right colour for autumn, red-orange, but still no leaves.

We stopped at a park in Midland, Ontario to stretch our legs.
This chipmunk was collecting acorns and hiding them away for winter.
The right colour again, but still no leaves.

Finially leaves that are changing a wonderful red-orange colour.

They look great against the background of green.

A close up of this wonderous colour change.

After hunting for the autumn colour change all day,
we were rewarded with this beautiful pinky-red sunset.

Thanks for stopping by and going on the hunt.

Mosaic Monday - Tree to Table

Sunny days, crisp mornings, beautiful leaf colour and frost on the pumpkins
it must be apple season.
The temperature was very cool today so I decided to turn the oven on,
we are having apple pie.

My mosaic reflects the journey the apple takes before coming to dinner.

Don't forget to check out all the other mosaics at Mary's blog
Little Red House.

Thank you for stopping by and take care.

Pink Saturday - Pink in the Garden

This week for Pink Saturday I thought I would show you some new additions to the garden.

This is Aster novi-belgii 'Wood's Pink'.
As well as being a beautiful pink, the bumblebees love it.

I removed an aster that had become too unruly in the garden and replaced it with this coneflower.
Let me introduce you to 'Lilliput',
a fragrant rose-purple Echinacea purpurea that only grows 18 inches tall.

When I saw this coneflower it was 'Fatal Attraction' and I just had to have it.
The flowers are a rich purple-pink with dark centers on red stalks with lush green foliage.
If the weather stays nice I may see the true colour of the flower,
if not I will have to wait until next summer.

This is Chrysanthemum x rubellum 'Clara Curtis', she has large deep pink single flowers.
She is not a new addition to the garden, but a staple I have had for many years.
She flowers faithfullly every year in full sun or partial shade.

Please stop by How Sweet the Sound hosted by Beverly, our lovely host, to
see what others are posting for Pink Saturday.

Thank you for visiting and have a great weekend.
